We are blessed to have Robert Lupton as a speaker for our banquet next February. He is the author of Toxic Charity. His is one of the major national voices for a candid re-examination of how we “help” our neighbors in need. His theme, like that of Love INC’s Lois Tupyi in, Redemptive Compassion, is that we must walk alongside those who are hurting to support them, not do FOR them.

A couple quotes from Chapter One: “When we do for those in need what they have the capacity to do for themselves, we disempower them.”  “For all our efforts to eliminate poverty, …we have succeeded only in creating a permanent underclass, dismantling their family structures, and eroding their ethic of work.”
