Is anybody here afraid of the dark?  Who has gone to camp or camping with your family?  Ever go out and walk in the woods at night?  Was it hard to find your way without tripping over rocks or tree roots?  Did you have someone with you that carried one of these?  What did they do with it?  Right, they held it up so that you could see the path ahead of you and not run into anything.

Read Scripture

Do you think adults are ever afraid of the dark?  You know, our Bible verse for today means more than just light for our eyes to see better.  It means that God’s word (the Bible) and believing in Him will help us through any trouble that we might be having.

[You may want to insert your own personal experience here.]

At one time I owned half of a business with another man.  All of the money my wife and I had in our savings had been put into the business, and even though we were working hard to make it be a success, there were problems.  I worried about what would happen if things didn’t get better.  How would we buy food or pay for our house and car?  I would work late and then come home tired.  But when I turned out the lights to go to bed, I couldn’t get to sleep because I was worrying about what would happen the next day.  All night long I would toss and turn, and then the next day I would be really tired.  After that went on for some time, I got to the point that I didn’t want to turn out the lights at night.  Then one night, after I laid down, I prayed to God that He would give me the strength to get through the next day and that night I slept better than I had slept for a long time.  And the next day, things seemed to go better.  From then on God never let me down.  Whenever I asked Him for help he’d come through.  Not always the way I expected, but yet He was always there.  And I wasn’t afraid of the dark any more.

So whether you are afraid of the dark woods or lost or have something else bothering you, you should remember to ask God for help because He will always listen and be there to help.

Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for being there to help us when we feel lost and alone.  We praise you for the light you bring to our darkness.  Help us always to trust that you will show us the way.  Amen.
