As we listen to the talking heads on media debate how we should respond to perceived threats to our safety as we travel this holiday season, we would be well advised to seek Godly counsel from His word.

Protection of God Invoked

Ezra 8:21 Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God to seek from Him a safe journey for us, our little ones, and all our possessions. 22 For I was ashamed to request from the king troops and horsemen to protect us from the enemy on the way, because we had said to the king, “The hand of our God is favorably disposed to all those who seek Him, but His power and His anger are against all those who forsake Him.” 23 So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He listened to our entreaty.

Psalm 94: 19 When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul. 20 Can a throne of destruction be allied with You, One which devises mischief by decree? 21 They band themselves together against the life of the righteous And condemn the innocent to death. 22 But the LORD has been my stronghold, And my God the rock of my refuge. 23 He has brought back their wickedness upon them And will destroy them in their evil; The LORD our God will destroy them.

If we wring our hands and fret over “What if” rather than seeking His protection and then trusting in His faithfulness, what witness does that give to the unbeliever in our midst? Would we not be better servants of the Most High God if we followed Ezra’s example and allowed our soul to be delighted in the Lord our stronghold, our God the rock of our refuge?
